The Best Food Allergy Resources

I thought it would be a helpful to share my favorite food allergy resources.  Hard to believe it has been 22 years since we began our journey with our daughter.  For more information on how that started, you can read my post at https://joyfaithstrength.com/how-i-became-an-food-allergy-mom/

While she was growing up, I would have to research a lot of my questions on line.  I would listen to the allergist and the pediatrician.  However, a lot of questions come up day to day as you are making purchasing decisions, restaurant choices, family situations, etc.  So I would go online to find information and support in these areas.  Over the years, I have found my favorites.  I would like to share them with you so you can have the latest and the greatest updates.  These are in no particular order and they are all beneficial in their own way.  If you have others that would help food allergy parents or people with food allergies, feel free to add them in the comments below.

snacksafely.com  This website is a great resource for the latest news, coupons, and snack safety guide.  They contact manufacturers and get the details on how items are processed and share it with their readers. I get their newsletter via email and follow them on twitter and facebook which keeps me abreast of the latest.

https://www.redsneakers.org  This website is committed to educating and advocating allergy awareness. It was inspired by the life of Oakley Debbs who loved his red sneakers.  They are dedicated to educating other parents about allergy awareness.  I learn new things all the time from this website and the stories they share.

https://www.foodallergy.org    Food Allergy Research and Education or FARE  This organization is a great advocate for Allergy research and helping people to get educated on allergy awareness. They are also known for the Teal pumpkin project that helps promote inclusion for trick or treaters with allergies for Halloween.  There is a wealth of information at this site!

https://www.foodallergyawareness.org   FAACT is a great resource for printable for schools and to share awareness to others as well as action plans. It also provides support groups and camps for kids.

https://www.turnitteal.org  TurnitTeal is a fascinating group I like to follow that is dedicated to spreading awareness of Allergies.  First of all, teal is my favorite color.  Second, they find innovative ways to create allergy awareness from lighting up the the Empire State Building to Niagara Falls with the color teal.  They have a schedule of lightings on their website page.

Each of these wonderful organizations can be followed on twitter, Facebook, and their websites.  If you are an allergy parent or know of a child with allergies and have questions, I highly recommend these sights.

Some things I have noticed over the 18 years I have been an allergy mom are the benefits these organizations have helped to promote since I started this journey.  Here is a list of just some of the items:

  • More epipens are being supplied in the public school system, college campus cafeterias, and first responders.
  • Restaurants supplying customers with detailed allergy menus.  This has been so helpful to our family. Thank you for the restaurants who supply them and the ones who put them together.  What a tedious task that must be!  We are grateful. I can see the relief my daughter has when an allergy menu is available.
  • Allergy labels on food items.  I have read so many labels. Everything wasn’t labeled as well as it is now.  I am so grateful. What  did we do without them before. I am noticing that the print can be very tiny sometimes though, which as I age, is becoming an issue.
  • Organizations like the ones above promoting research and development so that one day allergies may be a thing of the past.  A lot of progress has been made in this area and still being done.  Thank you!
  • Substitute for epipens possibly.. such as a nasal spray.  Thank you for the research in this area.
  • Many more allergy free foods available! Hallelujah!
  • More awareness to the public that this is a concern and life threatening to many people.
  • Some airlines are providing nut free flights and allowing people to board first on some flights if you have allergies.

We appreciate so much what these organizations  are doing to help!  Your diligence is not overlooked and so greatly appreciated!

I hope this information helps parents in your search for allergy information.  They have been a great resource to me and continue to be. I am very grateful to the people who take the time to inform us all about what is happening in research and development for allergies.  As well as how to live with the day to day questions and providing support groups. What a blessing!

Thank you and God Bless!
