Diaper Rash…What worked for us!

Most every baby may have diaper rash at one point or another.  My first child had it very bad.

Here I am, a new mother trying to heal my poor baby’s bottom.  I was nursing, so I made sure I wasn’t eating foods with high acidity and was trying to be very careful about what I ate.  I made sure her diaper was changed often. We tried different diapers. It didn’t matter, my baby apparently had very sensitive skin.  I also tried many diaper rash creams; at least 10+.  I have them all listed on a piece of paper somewhere in her baby file.  I brought the list to the doctor’s office to show them that nothing was working.  The pediatrician gave me a prescription from a local pharmacy which happened to make their own products and was working on a new diaper rash cream.

Low and behold this product worked.  I would put it on her in the evening and by morning her little bottom was healed.  After fighting this battle of diaper rash for so long, it was like a miracle. I was one happy mama! The product was called Triple paste Medicated Ointment for Diaper Rash.

It is a very thick white paste that you put on their bottom after each diaper change, especially at night.  After a while, the pharmacy started marketing it and we could get it in stores. This is amazing stuff.  It is more expensive than other brands,  but if you want your baby’s bottom to be better and nothing else is working, its worth every penny.  Just think of the time and money I would have saved if I would have used this before buying all those other products.  I was so thankful the physician recommended this pharmacy who was developing this product.

Since then, I have found that there have been studies that link extreme diaper rash to allergies.  You can read more about it at https://snacksafely.com/2018/12/study-diaper-dermatitis-lasting-longer-than-1-month-may-indicate-food-allergy/

We found out later our daughter was allergic to peanuts and tree nuts.  You can read more about that in my blog posthttps://joyfaithstrength.com/how-i-became-an-food-allergy-mom/

Coincidence…Hmmm only God really knows. However, if you are struggling with diaper rash, it may be worth looking into.

Now when your baby has diaper rash as extreme as mine did.  Another thing to consider is the wipes…

Our baby’s diaper rash was so bad that she would have open sores on her bottom. Most baby wipes have alcohol in it, which would sting anyone with open sores.  So we had to make our own wipes and this is how we did it:

  • First of all, we kept a plastic container from previous baby wipes we had and washed it out.

  • Take a roll of paper towels and cut them in half so you basically have two shorter rolls of paper towels.

  • Put baby oil (approximately 1 cup or so) with a few drops of baby shampoo in the container and mix it together.

  • Insert a roll of the paper towels into the container and turn it to absorb the baby oil mixture.

  • After it is absorbed,  put the paper towels so the latest towel is facing upward for easy grabbing.

  • Cover them in the container when not in use.

There you have it.  Baby wipes that will not sting a super sensitive baby bottom and a cream that works when the others won’t.

You can do this! Enjoy your baby and have a blessed day!
