Be Intentional in all you do

Be Intentional.  What does that mean? I know there are days when you may feel like you are just going through the motions. One day runs into the next or you may feel like you are just getting through each day.

Now that my children are grown, I can find my self doing things mindlessly going from one thing to the next. I tell myself I am just getting older or it must be hormonal that I can’t seem to focus. Sometimes I think it is the mindless doom scrolling on the phone which keeps me from being able to think as deeply as I used to or read long books recently.

I do have a checklist of basics I try to get to everyday to feel like I have accomplished something.

Such as: Devotion, Make Bed, Vitamins, Shower, Exercise, Sunshine, and Drink water. I like checking them off the list and somedays they are not as easy to get done as you would think. lol

Recently, I heard a sermon on being more intentional.  I have taken that to heart.  When I am doing things that seem mindless, I am asking myself why?  Why am I doing what I am doing? What is the significance of it?

For Example

Even when it comes to simple things like doing dishes or laundry.  Why?

I have discovered by taking the time to ask myself this question, I am finding what I do is important and relevant even though some days it doesn’t feel like it.

Why do I wash dishes? Because I want cleanliness and good health for my family.

Why do I clean clothes and pick up the house.  Because I want my husband to have clean clothes and the house to be in order when he arrives home after a long day. It also helps me to focus and have peace.

Why should I read the bible every day? Because it keeps me grounded in Christ and gives me guidance each day.

Why do we pray? Because the Holy Spirit can move mountains when we may not know what else to do.

By asking yourself why you are doing things, it helps to find the purpose behind what you do which I find helps me do those simple tasks with more joy and intention.  What you do has meaning. You are doing these tasks to better you and your family.

Just because you can do them without thinking sometimes does not make them any less important.  You are important.  You bring order, cleanliness, and clarity to your home.

Application

You can also apply this to anything you are doing. Ask yourself why? Bring your tasks or pursuits purpose and meaning. Pray to God for direction as well when deciding on new tasks in your life or use this method to weed out what isn’t important so you can focus on what is.

By taking the time to do this, I have come to appreciate all the little things I do that others may or may not see. I have come to find more purpose and peace.

May this new year be a year of intention to meet the goals you would like to accomplish as well as appreciate the little things you do everyday.

God Bless you and your families this Christmas Season and have a Marvelous new year.
